Lost Bike Lock Keys

Our fine mechanics here at Rapid Transit are sometimes called upon to cut a bike lock (this is how we know which ones are hard to cut). People seem to leave their bikes locked up around Chicago, and subsequently go out, enjoy themselves, and ... well ... lose their key.

Kryptonite locks come with two or even three keys. If you are lucky enough to have kept the spare in a safe place, go and register it, so you can get a replacement should you lose the spare too.

If you purchased your bike and Kryptonite lock at Rapid Transit, check with us before you panic. We often keep records of key number (imprinted on each key) under your name in out computer.

If your lock is not a Kryptonite, check with the manufacturer. Some may not have a a key registration program, but might still replace the key for you if you have made note of the key number.

What great advice, especially with school starting. Everyone should register their key numbers so we can help you out if you ever lose them. In most cases, the first two keys are free as part of Kryptonite's Key Safe Program, too. The great folks at Rapid Transit can tell you all about that.
Safe riding everyone!
