About leaving the offending object embedded in the tire...I learned this lesson the hard way by once flatting my tire 4 times in a 2 mile stretch. And it was raining.

It was a great but very painful lesson to learn. Now every time I flat I thoroughly check my tire....it is amazing how often you find something still lodged in there.
